Milan (Italy). It’s finally Friday and the week is almost over… It was a tough week, and the re-start after the holiday period is always heavy. Let’s refresh our minds with a good Gin Tonic!
I have a particular love for gin tonic, for this reason I drink it only when I’m sure it is prepared in a very professional way. This means not only a top level gin (Monkey 47, The Botanist and Gin Mare are among my favorites) but also an excellent tonic water (it can change on the basis of the chosen gin) and – trust me – good ice.
There is a place in Milan where I go quite frequently. Its name is “La Bottega del Vino” and it is close to Parco Sempione. They have a two-pages gin tonics menu, each gin label is mixed with a specific tonic water and flavored with ingredients like black pepper grains, cinnamon sticks, vanilla, flowers, cucumbers etc. Last but not least – as said – they have a special ice made by a Japanese ice machine, which first creates a thick surface and then cuts it with a laser. It is probably a very expensive tool, but ice will not melt shortly as it happens normally, and the fragrance of the cocktail will remain unaltered.
By the way: meet my wife Benedetta (in the background). She’s a gin tonic lover too…
